## Why it matters

The AAP says educational interventions and individual school supports should be part of ADHD treatment. A support plan names the barriers, the changes agreed and who provides the help. US IEP and 504 plans are one version, other countries run different systems, and the evidence for each single accommodation is limited, so review what actually helps your child.

## How to do it

1. Find out who at school coordinates support for pupils with additional needs.
2. Describe what gets in the way of learning or taking part, including how your child sees it.
3. Request an assessment of support needs and a written record of the help agreed.
4. Agree who provides each support and when the plan gets reviewed.

## Talk to a clinician first

Eligibility and legal procedures vary by country and school system. An ADHD diagnosis does not automatically decide which plan or adjustments a child gets.

## Putting it into practice

### Start now

- 1 minute: Write the single school barrier you want the support meeting to tackle.
- 5 minutes: Draft an email asking the school for a support meeting or a needs assessment.
- 15 minutes: Make a short list for the meeting: the barriers, the help already in place, and what your child thinks.

### What it looks like

- Ask for a meeting with the school's support coordinator and bring one classroom concern.
- If a quieter room for tests is offered, ask for it to be written down with a review date.

### Common mistakes

- A list of possible adjustments is not a plan for your child. Match each one to the barrier it deals with.
- More accommodations are not always better. Ask your child and the staff which ones are earning their place.
